Developmental Educator - Disability Specialist
Mary strongly believes that everyone has the right to participate in society and to also have equal access, choices and opportunities to live independently in the community. This ethos has shaped Mary's passion for advocacy and her committment to provide therapeutic interventions to improve the outcomes for people living with disability.
During Mary's studies, she was awarded membership to the Golden Key International Academic Honour Society and was the recipient of the 2017 Disability and Developmental Education Student of the Year Award (Outstanding Achievers Award) from Developmental Educators Australia Inc.
As a Developmental Educator, Mary's various roles include, working towards participants NDIS goals, developing therapy programs, facilitating groups, building independent life-skills within the home and wider community while also expanding the participant's families capacity. Mary also collaborates with service providers and other allied health professionals to further educate support workers and mentors to support the individual reach their full capacity.
Mary holds a Bachelor of Disability and Developmental Education (Rehabilitation Counselling) and a postgraduate Master of Disability Policy and Practice from Flinders University. Mary also holds a Diploma in Community Services (Mental Health) and a Certificate IV in Business Administration. Mary is a member and currently sits on the committee for the Developmental Educators Australian Inc (DEAI), which is the professional representative body for Developmental Educators.
Mary is a mother to twin identical girls. Mary's vocation is to support people living with disability, their families and support networks to deliver a range of specialist services by working in collaboration to form positive partnerships.
Mary believes that positive actions need to be taken to support people with disability to achieve a better lifestyle by participating in their community, assume valued social roles and experience greater satisfaction and fulfilment.
